"This will be an annual event in Puerto Rico to raise funds and also raise awareness about Lehman," said Myrna Rivera '75 (M.A.), chair of the event and member of the board of the Lehman College Foundation, which sponsored the evening. Attendees included leaders of the island's business, government, education, legal and arts communities, as well as other alumni.
Dave Valentin, the acclaimed jazz flutist who received an honorary degree from Lehman at Commencement earlier this year, Charlie Sepulveda and "Turnaround," and other guest artists had the audience rocking and cheering. President Fernández, who was born in Puerto Rico, delivered a warmly received talk, and Ms. Rivera narrated a powerpoint presentation about the College. Also attending was Bernd Brecher, executive director of the Lehman College Foundation.
The date for next year's celebration will be set shortly.
