Lightning Swim Champ Named Athlete of the Year

Sophomore Darnell James was recently named Men's Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Year by the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC). James was named the Performer of the Year for the second consecutive season after helping to lead the Lightning to a second-place finish during the regular season.

The Lightning went on to capture its first CUNYAC Championship at the Swimming and Diving Championships on February 4 at Lehman. James scored a team-high of 54 points at the Championship and set a new meet record in the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 53:47. He was also named CUNYAC Performer of the Week on two separate occasions this season.
