Lehman President Elected Vice Chair of American Council on Education

Ricardo R. Fernández
Based in Washington, DC, ACE seeks to provide leadership and a unifying voice on key higher education issues and influence public policy through advocacy, research and program initiatives.
At Lehman, Dr. Fernández is recognized for fostering collaboration between the College and local schools in the areas of technology, the arts, and professional development. During his 15-year tenure, Lehman has significantly increased the level of its grant-funded research and the variety and reach of its educational programs, while also becoming a major resource for the borough's economic development and cultural enrichment.
Locally, Dr. Fernández is a Trustee of the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center and a Director of Wave Hill and the Riverdale Mental Health Association. He was a member of the Transition Committee (Panel on Health) following Mayor Bloomberg's election in 2001.
Nationally, Dr. Fernández has served in the recent past as Chair of the Board of the American Association of Higher Education and Governing Board of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities. He is currently a member of the boards of directors of the Intercultural Development Research Association (IDRA) in San Antonio, Texas; Multicultural Education Training and Advocacy (META) and the Hispanic Educational Telecommunication System, an international distance learning consortium of 18 colleges and universities.
He also serves on the New York State Commissioner of Education's Advisory Council on Higher Education, the National Hispanic Business Group's Advisory Board and the Frito-Lay (North America) Latino/Hispanic Advisory Board.
