Every semester, Professor Carney (Journalism, Communication and Theatre) takes students on fieldtrips to facilities that bring to life the material they study in class. Last year, students visited the NY1 news center in Chelsea; the year before, they were welcomed at the WCBS-TV (Channel 2) newsroom.

"There is so much happening in New York," explains Professor Carney (top row, sixth from left), "and so many opportunities for students to actually experience the environments and meet the leaders in the fields of journalism and media, that it would be shortsighted not to take advantage of our location."

The trips also give students the chance to talk to professionals in the field about internship and career opportunities. After graduation, Lehman alumna Alecia Reid ('04) went directly to work for Fox-TV as a Sales Assistant.
