Lehman College Community Band to Give 9/11 Concert
The Lehman College Community Band will commemorate the anniversary of 9/11 with a special outdoor concert, entitled "Honoring Americašs Heroes," on Sunday, September 11, at 4 p.m., in the Lehman College Amphitheatre. The event is free and open to the public.
Under the direction of Professor Alan Hollander, the band will perform two pieces written specifically as tributes to those who perished on September 11, as well as a selection of patriotic music for symphonic wind band. Trumpeter William Owens will perform "The Artunian," a trumpet concerto written to commemorate the 1915 genocide in Armenia.
"William is a talented trumpeter, and the piece he is doing is a wonderful, audience-friendly concerto," says Professor Hollander. The program will include works by Ewazen, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Lampl, Sousa, Anderson, Gershwin, Bernstein and others.
A senior college of The City University of New York, Lehman is located at Goulden Avenue and Bedford Park Boulevard in the northwest Bronx and is accessible by bus as well as the #4 and "D" subway lines. Free attended parking is also available.
In case of inclement weather, the concert will move indoors to the Lovinger Theatre. For more information, call (718) 960-8247.
