Alicia Georges
Professor Alicia Georges
Nursing Chair Alicia Georges recently delivered the keynote address at Johns Hopkins's Black Student Nursing Association's inaugural conference. The meeting, entitled "Nursing: Beyond Color, Beyond Culture," brought together students and nursing professionals to address the issues of diversification, pursuit of higher education and research in nursing.

An educator, practitioner and community activist, Professor Georges was the president of the National Black Nurses Association from 1987-1991. She currently serves as president of the National Black Nurses Foundation and secretary-treasurer of the board of the International Society on Hypertension in Blacks.

Professor Georges, whose research focuses on health disparities, professional organizational development and health policy, has dedicated her career to improving minority representation in the health professions.

"This conference, and others like it, really show students that there is a community of professionals out there who want to see them succeed," she says.
