Lehman's Theatre Program Presents Shakespeare's Othello March 16-20
Theatre major Dario Torres will breathe life into the villainous Iago, who manipulates the tragic events in the play. Torres's acting credits include four theatrical productions at Bronx Community College and a role in a full-length independent feature film. He also was in the cast of Lehman's productions of Antigone, Peter Pan and The Wiz.
Jason Smith, as Othello, makes his second appearance on the Lehman stage. Audiences will remember Smith from his role as the Head Monkey in The Wiz. Christina Pagan, a senior in the theatre program, will play Desdemona, Othello's wife. Her past credits include Graziella in West Side Story, Sister Robert Anne in Nunsense and Louisa in Yo Soy Latina.
Othello tells the story of a noble Moor whose love for his wife turns sour after he hears rumors of her adultery. "This play in particular offers actors a wonderful opportunity to explore the light and dark sides of human nature," says Ross.
The play opens Wednesday with an afternoon performance at 3:30 p.m. It continues with performances at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and concludes on Sunday with a performance at 3 p.m. There is a special matinee performance on Friday, March 18, at noon. General admission tickets are $10. Tickets for students and seniors are $8. Admission is free for Lehman students with valid I.D.
