Panelists Louis Flam (Anthropology) discussed the culture and politics of Afghanistan, Joan Mencher (Anthropology) presented the Indian perspective, Lucy Saunders (Anthropology, Emerita) spoke about Egypt, Donna Kirchheimer (Political Science) talked about living in a global world, Julie Maybee (Philosophy) addressed the importance of asking tough questions to understand "why" people do what they do, and Bertrade Mbom (Black Studies) discussed Afghan women living under the Taliban. ![]() A second panel addressed emerging issues for the United States in the
aftermath of September 11. Jim Kraus (Economics) discussed civil liberties,
David Manier (Psychology) spoke about post-traumatic stress, and Alex Cruz
(SEEK) talked about the passions evoked in the aftermath of September 11.
Jane Levitt (Health Services) examined issues of public health, and Barbara
Menéndez (Health Services) discussed epidemiology and anthrax.
