Office of Institutional Advancement
Within the greater Division of Advancement, the Office of Institutional Advancement is responsible for raising private dollars—and in particular, major gifts—from corporations and foundations, as well as alumni and friends of the College. It achieves this through donor cultivation; the annual fund campaign’s direct mail and phone-a-thon programs; the planned giving program for bequests, charitable trusts, insurance, and gift annuities; and special events such as the Lehman College Leadership Awards Dinner. The Office of Institutional Advancement is also responsible for the $40 million Lehman College Comprehensive/Capital Campaign.
Strategically, the Office has two goals: the first is to identify and cultivate those individuals, corporations, and foundations that can respond to a broad range of the College’s needs. The second is to increase the overall percentage of alumni who give to Lehman. All gifts, whether large or small, support Lehman scholarships and fellowships; faculty and academic departments; research and graduate programs; capital and equipment needs; and community outreach through the Center for the Performing Arts, the Lehman College Gallery, lectures, and theater productions.
The Office of Institutional Advancement works in conjunction with the Lehman College Foundation, which manages most private gifts donated on behalf of the College, ensuring that they are utilized for the purpose donated, and not commingled with state or other government funds.
