HIU 720: Early American Cultural and Intellectual History.

The major ideas, institutions, and individuals in American cultural and intellectual life from the mid-seventeenth through the late-nineteenth centuries. Puritanism; the Enlightenment in America; republicanism and romanticism; and the professionalization of letters and learning.
