Mary-Ellen DorfmanMary-Ellen Dorfman is an adjunct instructor in the Department of Health Sciences and a member of the Dietetic Internship Selection Committee. She teaches DFN 348 and 448 (Nutrition and Disease I and II). Professor Dorfman received her B.S. in Food & Nutrition from Marymount College and her MPH in Community Health Education from Hunter College.

Prior to joining Lehman, she was very active in her local PTSA. She has held the positions of Vice President and Chair of the Health & Wellness Committee. She is currently Rye YMCA Liaison, Co-Chair of the Faculty Donations, Parent Partner for the Science Fair and on the Parents for Public Education Committee. In these various positions, she developed and implemented a snack survey, created a nutrition education piece on healthy snacking, co-wrote a grant for the Peace Garden, coordinated and ran Family Fitness Nights, scheduled fitness classes run by the Rye YMCA and was a member of the Garden Committee.

In addition, she volunteers her time giving community education lectures. Her most recent lectures include the Rye YMCA Gymnastics Team on Gymnasts and a Healthy Body and Concordia Nursing School on a Heart Healthy Diet.

Professor Dorfman has worked at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center as the dietitian in charge of hemodialysis and renal and liver transplant. In this capacity, she also educated dietetic interns. She has also lectured to Columbia University graduate students and hemodialysis nurses on renal nutrition. Previous teaching experience includes Medical Nutrition Therapy and Food Science taught at Marymount/Fordham University.
