Professor Montero teaches Latin American literature at Lehman College and the CUNY Graduate Center. He is the author of The Name Game (Chapel Hill, 1988) on Cuban writer Severo Sarduy, Erotismo y representaciÓn en Julián del Casal (Amsterdam, 1993) and (Macmillan, 2004). His recent work includes the articles "La prosa neoyorquina de Julia de Burgos: 'la cosa latina' en 'mi segunda casa,'" Ciberletras 20 (December 2008) and "José Martí against Race" in The Cuban Republic and José Martí, 2006. His translation of Julián del Casal's poem "Autobiography" was published in La Habana Elegante 46 (fall 2009). His play Las rutas de Julia de Burgos was presented in a public reading at IATI (International Theater Arts Institute, New York) in January 2009.
