Please note that all new applicants to our graduate programs that lead to certification as of 9/1/06 are required to submit scores from the ACTFL/OPI. The advisors will assist you in making arrangements to take this oral proficiency interview in your target language. Undergraduate students who declare the minor after 9/1/06 are required to take the ACTFL/OPI before the end of their program (that is, before Lehman College will recommend them to the State for certification). The MA in Spanish for Middle and High School Teachers (Sequence 2) is the most popular program with courses in graduate education and Spanish courses. This program is housed in the Department of Languages and Literatures and directed by Dr. Cristina Guinazú (Carman Room 279, Phone 718-960-8229). The program code is 855. Program Brochure A related program, the Advanced Certificate in Languages Other than English (LOTE), is housed in the Department of Middle and High School Education. The advanced certificate is for individuals who already have a master's degree in their target language, but are in need of the professional education courses. This program is not restricted to Spanish as its title indicates. The City University of New York provides courses in a wide variety of languages should individuals need to take additional foreign language classes to review their language skills. (Phone 718-960-8172 - ask for the adviser). Program Brochure The Foreign Language Education Program also provides support to the Undergraduate Foreign Language Education Minor, especially when candidates begin taking methods and students teaching courses. Dr. Fletcher coordinates the undergraduate programs (david.fletcher@lehman.cuny.edu, Carman Room B29M, Phone 718-960-8006).
