Sending E-mail

This is an example of a ninth grader's response to reading books in an independent reading project. Below are three E-mails that Anna sent to two of her classmates and two of her teachers, Paul and Carol, during Winter Break, February 2002. [The students' E-mail addresses have been changed.]

The hypothesis of the "Language and the Internet" Web site is that we will find "Involved" and "Impersonal" language in E-mail.

ok. this is my first reading log, but it think it should be the last couse i finished my book and i have nuthin to read. I finished the book " there's a boy in the girl's bathroom"  like two days ago, but i didnt get a chance to write a log . I simply loved this book. it was so cool. it has become my favorite book. I really liked how the main character  Bradley changed. In the beginning of the book he was a kid that never did his hw, never listened in class and that no other kids wanted  to be friends with. But when he started getting help from his counselor he changed a lot. He started doing his hw, and even read a book. He was doing all of this couse he had a crush on Carla( the counselor). But even when he decided to change a lot fo pple didnt want to belive it and were still acting mean to him. I don't really wanna say too much about the end or how it was, because i know DANY lol is reading the same book and I don't know if he finished. ok thats it i guess.bye anna

as i already told you i have written one log and i didnt have any book so i had nuthin to write about, but now that i do i will write about  my new book  stuck in neutral. i read only 4 pages, but i already feel sorry for this kid, beacuse he has this special ability of rembering things exactly word by word even if it happed a year ago. but he aslo has this siccness. he cant move any of his muscles and pple think hes a retard. like really stupid. this person was checking how smart he is and she sadi that his I.Q. is 1.2 and a mental abilty of a 3 month old baby. so i relly fell soryy for him. thats about it beacuse i didnt read that much. bye

well I read more of my new book.The book seems fine right now but im not sure if it will be one of my favorites. i didnt find out many new things but the thing that I found out is that the main character thinks that his father  will kill him. He said that his father would do it becasue he loves him but to me it just seems stupid. It also very frustrating for him, couse he cant tell none( beacasue he cant controol his muscles and speak ) . I really think its impposibale that his father is going to kill him out of love. i think its the stupidest think ever. if u love some1 u dont want them to die. i think that the father wants to kill him so there will be less burdon for him and his family.or maybe he doesnt want him to go through anymore pain. well thats what i think.  The other thing I read about was when  Shawn( the main character)  saw a dog die. He descibed the dog's death and said it was like nothing. I have an idea what he was talking about but i am not sure. It also seems kind off weird to me couse i also think about death sometimes and it can really scare me.well thats about it. bye
