The Process:

Elements of Adventure

first let's form...THE GROUP

1. Form a group of 2-4 students.

2. Write a group contract. In it you will list all the items that you think are necessary to have a successful project. (See the "Evaluation" section for criteria on how the project will be graded. Also, see STUDENT PROGRESS SHEET )

3. Review all the terms in the glossary.

*NOTE: As a group - you are responsible for completing all parts of this project. Each group member must participate in all the activities delegated by the group. The group can divide up group tasks in any way that it wishes. As an individual - each member will write a diary that is explained in the "Task" section of this project. (See Individual Diary)

next choose...YOUR ROLES

Storyteller
ROLE: to inspire the group's imagination. You will help spin the story so that it leads in many exciting directions, with lots of suspicious clues, complicated characters, understandable motives for their actions, enticing secrets and so much more.
Writer
ROLE: to write down the group's story as it is told. You will ensure that the story exists in written form, using snappy dialogue, colorful adjectives, and hordes of action verbs. Above all, you will focus on clear communication.
Editor
ROLE: to check on the story line and make sure that all the pieces match. You want to look for any contradictions in the events of plot, and know that all the major characters have motives, the clues fit, and that the story meets the criteria for this project.
Artist/Designer
ROLE: to layout the design of all the elements in a series of attractive webpages. You will collect the images, create your own and other's artwork to scan in, ensure that the pages are easy to navigate and that all the links work properly.

Now it's time to conduct your... RESEARCHYou do not have to do the tasks below in any particular order. However,

you must complete all tasks

in order to plan out your story most effectively.

CHARACTER
1(a). Take the Keirsey Temperament Test. Find out about the four basic temperaments (personalities). Read the descriptions to learn what your characters might be like. 1(b). Character Sheet. After you select a story web choice, brainstorm your characters. Then fill out a sheet for each major character in your story. These will help you to make your characters believable and interesting. Remember to use what you've learned from the Keirsey Temperament Test personality types to help you to create rich, complex characters.
MOTIVES
2(a). Review Maslow's Hierarchy of Basic Needs. Make sure that you understand what it is that people want. These are the underlying needs that drive us to act in the world. 2(b). Character Sheet. What makes each of your characters do the things that they do? The needs you discover from Maslow will become the motives that lie underneath your characters actions. This will demonstrate what each character truly wants.
PLOT
3(a). Examine the choices for plot. Select a story web that you find most enjoyable, challenging and possible to achieve.

3(b)Story Writing Tips. Check out the ideas for ways to make your plot (story web) more interesting. Also, complete the puzzle.

3(c).Plot Sheet. Fill out this sheet showing all the various choices, dead ends, and connections. Make sure that you have included all the necessary elements of plot.

IMAGES
4. Create one folder with all your downloaded, scanned and on-line drawings. Also include any sounds you might have downloaded or recorded.
