College Now Program

What We Do

What's in it for me?

By participating in the College Now program, you can reduce the time for earning the college degree and the cost of getting a college education. In addition, the courses you take, regardless of the subject or level, will help you do better in high school. College Now reinforces the skills you need to progress toward promotion, graduation, and enhanced performance on Regents examinations.

What's in it for you? All of the following:

  • You can qualify to take freshman college credit courses at Lehman College. The college course credits you earn at Lehman can be transferred to almost any college you attend, whether it is a CUNY, SUNY, or another public or private institution.
  • You will be invited to visit Lehman College, where you will be introduced to campus programs and facilities. You will also receive information regarding the college enrollment process and financial aid.
  • When you are enrolled in a college-credit course, you will receive a Lehman College ID, which entitles you to use the library, computer center, and the APEX athletics complex.
  • You could qualify for scholarships and to participate in a special internship project, called Model New York City Council Project.
  • You will gain experience in dealing with the expectations, pace and rigor of performing college level work.

Eligibility for the program

Any qualified student from an affiliated high school can participate in the program.

In order to qualify to take a college credit-bearing course at Lehman, you must meet the following criteria:

  • 75+ overall HS average, and
  • 75+ on the English Language Arts Regents

OR

  • 75+ overall HS average, and
  • 480 on the SAT Verbal/ Critical Reading

Note: Mathematics and foreign language courses require additional pre-requisites, including a placement exam.

If you do not meet these requirements, you will be offered the opportunity to take specifically designed workshops at your high school or at The College. These will help you qualify to take credit courses at a later time.

You can receive more information about the program from your guidance counselor or the College Now representative at your school.

Meningitis Response Form Requirement

The New York State Public Health Law 2167 requires all students registered for classes to fill out the Meningitis Response Form [PDF]. Students under the age of 18 must have the form signed by a parent or guardian and return it to the College Now office, located in Carman Hall, Room 189. Students who do not fill out the form will neither be able to register for classes nor receive final grades. If you have any questions, call the main office at 718-960-8932.
