THE 225

An introduction to the contemporary practice of Digital Storytelling. Students will learn the essential tools for digital storytelling, utilizing video production and performance techniques such as projection, digital soundscape, and editing in the production of multimedia stage productions. Students will gain proficiency in the practical application of principles and theories of multimedia arts production. This course also introduces the theory and application of multimedia performing arts software products.

Tiana Marenah - Instructor

Born in The Gambia, Tiana moved to Anchorage, Alaska with her family at the age of 3. She left Alaska to study history and film at the George Washington University in Washington, DC. After completing her undergraduate degree Tiana left D.C. to attend NYU’s Tisch Asia graduate film program in Singapore, where she received her MFA in writing and directing. Presently, Tiana resides in Brooklyn, NY where she works as a writer, director and video-instillation artist as well as educator. She has shown her video-installations in museums and galleries such as the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Witte de Witte Center for Contemporary Art in Rotterdam, NL.

Giovanni Ortiz - Teaching Assistant

Having such love for the performers industry, Giovanni Ortiz started in LoMA High school as a performer and gradually evolving as a performer to on stage in LaGuardia Community College and Lehman College shortly after. He intends to continue his love and passion for the theatre and films and is thankful to be a part of the College Now program.

Fatema Aifa

Fatema Aifa is a 17 year old rising senior attending Frederick Douglass Academy in Harlem. She was born in the Bronx and at the age of one she was sent to Ghana to live with her grandmother. She was raised by her grandmother(RIP) until she was ten. She moved back to New York to live with her parents and siblings. She has worked hard to maintain a grade point average above 3.0. She decided to take Digital Storytelling course because she wanted to steer away from her normal routines this summer. She aspires to be an entrepreneur and be in control of her future.

Hugo Boyer

My name is Hugo Boyer and I am a 16 year old high school STUDENT in 11th grade who applied to College Now for college credits. I enjoy watching Netflix and eating my mom's food. I also go to the gym every week.

Alnisa Burke

Alnisa is currently 17 years old and is about to enter her senior year of high school at East Bronx Academy for the Future. She enjoys taking photos, sightseeing, and meeting new people. She is a very hardworking individual and is always up for new challenges. She is currently attending College Now where she is taking Digital Storytelling.

Lu Cao

Hi! My name is Lu Cao and I am currently enrolled in High School of American Studies at Lehman College. I came to the U.S. with my family two years ago, excited, but also afraid. There are many challenges waiting for me. I like animation and music. This is the reason I chose to be in the College Now program this summer. Because of my different cultural background, it was hard to assimilate with my classmates at my high school. But here I meet new friends who have the same interests as me. It’s really a pleasure to be here, to know all you guys. I will be more courageous in my life. Thank you for meeting you all

Oliver Copeland

Oliver Copeland is a 17 year old who will be starting his senior year at LaGuardia High School in fall 2018. He has a passion for drama and has participated in performances of the works of Martin McDonagh, Donald Margulies, and Neil LaBute. He is participating in this year’s school musical, The Sound of Music, in the role of Herr Zeller. He felt that a Digital Storytelling class could help further his knowledge of performance art.

Michelle Hernandez

I am MICHELLE HERNANDEZ and I'm 17 years old. I'm Mexican-American and currently attend Lehman High School. As of September, I will be a senior. I'm a big fan of comic books and comic book based movies. I listen to a lot of Spanish rock music in my free time. I have two younger siblings that I love very much. I also love going into the city during snowy days. 

Tanira Huertas

Tanira Huertas is a rising senior at the The Cinema School that focuses on film studies and she hopes to incorporate film in her future. She participated in College Now program in spring 2018 and successfully completed SOC 166: Fundamentals of Sociology for three college credits. After succeeding in the sociology course, she decided to take a different type of course in the summer program and enrolled in Digital Storytelling. Tanira has a passion for creative writing and therefore wants to become a screenwriter for the film industry. 

Ariel Mauras

Ariel Mauras is a rising senior at the Collegiate Institute for Math and Science in the Bronx.  He is 16 years old, will graduate in 2019 and is hoping to enroll in a college where he can major as a Paleontologist or an Animator.  He is enrolled in the College Now Summer Digital Storytelling class. He attended this class to see if this is a possible career choice he will see himself pursuing.  He is a dinosaur fanatic who likes looking at cool weapons and enjoys watching anime and cartoons. His favorite dinosaur is the Carnotaurus and his favorite anime and cartoons include: JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Dragon Ball Z/Super, Avatar: The Last Airbender and RWBY.  

Ashley Merhai

Ashley Merhai is a first generation American 14 year-old young adult currently attending Bronx Early College Academy. She is taking the Digital Storytelling class at Lehman College in the Multimedia Arts Academy. She is taking this class because of her passion for drawing, and also to establish a strong foundation in her path to becoming an animator. She also aspires to major in English in the future, due to her fondness of reading and writing. Ashley describes herself as shy at first, and vibrant when she becomes more comfortable. She is optimistic, hopeful, affectionate, humble, and aside from her academic life, she is a loyal friend and a strong-minded individual. She’s a well-rounded girl, as she also makes times for hobbies such as playing a PC game called League Of Legends (2AshKetchum2).

Nancy Montes De Oca

Nancy Montes De Oca is a 16 year old Dominican and rising senior at Bronx River High School. Her passion is to draw, play instruments like the guitar and piano and watch many shows on Netflix. She attends the College Now program for Digital Storytelling because she wants to explore the arts of filming and/or video making. As of now she is having a great experience in the Digital Storytelling class.

Ian Pick

Hi I’m Ian! I’m going to be 16 years old in August. I live on the Upper East Side in Manhattan. I’m going into my junior year at New Explorations into Science and Technology + Math. I have experience in Final Cut Pro and After Effects, and I love editing film. My hobbies include drawing, editing, and exploring new places. I’m a member of Peer Leaders and Yearbook at my school. 

Rebecca Raghunath

Rebecca Raghunath is fifteen years old and is excited to be a participant in the 2018 summer College Now program. She is currently taking the Digital Storytelling class. She attends Collegiate Institute for Math and Science where she is going to be a junior. Rebecca enjoys watching all kinds of movies and TV shows. She especially loves watching Marvel films. Rebecca’s ambition is to one day become a screenwriter.

Jennifer Rodriguez

Jennifer Rodriguez is 17 years old. She goes to EBA and is going to be a senior. She is not really sure of what college she is going to go to at the end of the school year. She is still deciding on her career path. She is now taking a College Now course in order to find out what she wants to do and to get credit. She enjoys watching Netflix, writing stories and spending time with loved ones.

Bobbie Stevenson

Bobbie Stevenson is a College Now student attending the summer Multimedia Arts Academy at Lehman college. Bobbie currently resides in Queens, NY, but lived in Poughkeepsie NY for a period of time. They enjoy shopping for stationary and listening to music, in which their own eclectic taste has formed. Before taking the Digital Storytelling class, they had no real interest in film or digital media. However, Bobbie is currently considering taking a major in technical theatre, rather than fine arts.

Jenny Townsend

Jenny Townsend is a 16 year old girl who goes to CIMS. She enjoys watching TV, drawing and, learning sign language. She is currently in the College Now Digital Storytelling class.

Aristides Ulloa

Hello people, my name is Aristides Ulloa, but people call me Aj or Aris. I'm originally from the Bronx NY, but my parents are Dominican and I lived in DR for a couple of years. I love to draw and hope to become an artist of some kind when I'm older. I'm in the digital story telling class because I am interested in editing and videography.

Jesus Aristides Ulloa

Jesus Aristides Ulloa is a very determined, inventive, silly young individual. Jesus was born in the Bronx, New York and lived sometime in the Dominican Republic. He is now a rising senior at Explorations Academy H.S. While Jesus has yet to discover his true passion or ultimate career, he has found an interest in photography, editing, and business and hopes to pursue or have some type of relationship with all three fields in the near future.

Cory Wallace

Cory Wallace is man with untamed talent. His sense of humor, huge experience in many areas (music composition, sprite image drawing, game design, game programming, etc.) and courage has allowed him to surpass almost every obstacle. He is currently rocking with Digital Storytelling with College Now at Lehman College to stroke his ego. Despite his nice behavior, he is not afraid to boast about his accomplishments. If Cory has to have one weakness, it is his confidence. If Cory has to have one strength, it is his confidence.
