This course provides an opportunity to work as an ensemble and bring, in a mere five weeks, dramatic texts to life on the stage. In parallel to their work as actors – which is a first experience for most of them, students learn about the Art of Theatre by researching and presenting a particular topic in class (Medieval Theatre, Women in Theatre, Shakespeare and his time, The Globe Theatre, Theatre of the Absurd, the Rise of Realism, Systems of Acting, etc). Students also explore writing techniques to express themselves and some of their work is included among scenes and excerpts from major playwrights such as Shakespeare and August Wilson. Most importantly, students are exposed to an acting technique that reaches into their intuitive and impulsive approach to text and develops their own voice towards self-expression.
