Lehman Softball Takes Two From SUNY Purchase
Bronx,
NY- The Lehman College women's softball team began the season
in fine fashion, sweeping a doubleheade from SUNY Purchase, 10-6, and 16-10
at the South Field on the campus of Lehman College.
Freshman pitcher Meghan Moran was great in her Lehman debut, striking out five batters in the first game to earn her first collegiate victory. Moran was called upon in the second game to settle down the Lightning and capture the victory in the second game also.
Senior Marleny Felipe, and freshman Maria Cruz led the Lightning charge at the plate. Felipe was great in her senior season debut, only qualifying for three actual at bats, but having four crucial sacrifices in the Lightning season opening victory against SUNY Purchase. Cruz, a freshman from Bushwick, New York, gave the Lightning a new power stroke, going 5-9 in her season debut, and driving in four runs for Lehman.
Up next for Lehman is a non-conference tilt with the College of Mount St. Vincent, on Tuesday at the South Field. Game time is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
