Lightning Welcome Back John Sanchez As Assistant Basketball Coach
Bronx, NY- The Lehman College men’s basketball team recently announced the hiring of John Sanchez as Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach. It will be Sanchez’s second stint with the Lightning. Sanchez was a member of the Lehman Staff for three years from 2000-2003. He played a major role in helping to build one of the most successful and consistent programs in the CUNY conference. While at Lehman the Lightning averaged close to 17 wins a year and took home a CUNY North title in 2002. He has spent the last two seasons as the assistant coach at John Jay College.
“I am extremely excited about John returning to the staff,” said Lehman head coach Steve Schulman. “John has a tremendous work ethic, is an outstanding recruiter, and most importantly, is passionate about the game of basketball.”
In his return to Lehman, Sanchez has picked up a wealth of experience, by coaching at Hostos Community College, and his last stint at John Jay. Coach Sanchez believes Lehman is where he can help return the program to greatness.”
“Working at John Jay was a wonderful experience, Coach Jackson was terrific, but my heart has always been with the Lightning and the opportunity to return to Coach Schulman’s staff is one I did not want to pass up,” said Sanchez. “I have grown as a person and as a Coach since I left and feel I have a great deal to contribute to Lehman College and it’s Men’s Basketball program.”
