Students interested in learning more about Scholarship opportunities and/ or applying, should contact our office in Carman Hall room 337 or email us at studyabroad.programs@lehman.cuny.edu. Please keep in mind that the application proccess can be demanding and may take some time to prepare. For this reason we encourage students to begin the application process early.

Fulbright Scholarship (2013-2014):

Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship (Spring 2013):

  • Application deadline for Summer/Fall 2013: March 5th, 2013

David L. Boren Scholarship/Fellowship (2013):

  • Boren Scholarships 2013 - Application deadline will be on February 13th 2013
  • Boren Fellowships 2013 - Application deadline will be on January 31st 2013

Freeman-ASIA Scholarship (Spring 2013 and early academic year 2013-2014):

  • Application deadline: Funding is not available for Summer 2013 and beyond.

Study/Travel Opportunities for CUNY Students (STOCS)

Every spring and fall, the City University of New York offers STOCS scholarships for CUNY students participating in short-term CUNY study abroad programs in the summer and winter intersessions. Rewards range from $1,000 to $1,650, and eligibility varies by the following criteria: You can fill out the online application at the STOCS Web site.

Institute of International Education (IIE)

  • Fulbright Scholarship
    • The prestigious Fulbright Scholarship Program is a public diplomacy initiative funded by the U.S. Department of State.
    • Those not attending school must request applicant information from IIE's U.S. student programs office.
    • IIE cannot accept applications from foreign nationals for the Fulbright program. Foreign nationals must apply through the binational Fulbright Commission or designated U.S. diplomatic post in their home nation.

    • For serious students seeking excellence in studio art, liberal arts, and art conservation.
    • Available for semester/year abroad, late spring and summer studies, two-year diploma, post-baccalaureate, M.A. and M.F.A. programs.

  • Freeman-ASIA Scholarship:
  • Freeman-ASIA (Freeman Awards for Study in Asia) is designed to support American undergraduates with demonstrated financial need who are planning to study overseas in East or Southeast Asia.
  • The program’s goal is to increase the number of Americans with first-hand exposure to and understanding of Asia and its peoples and cultures.
  • A Freeman-ASIA Award provides need-based funding to assist the recipient with the cost of the study abroad program and related expenses, includingairfare, basic living costs, local transportation, books, etc.

  • Freeman Indonesia Nonprofit Internship Program :
  • The Freeman Indonesia Nonprofit Internship Program (FINIP), funded by the Freeman Foundation, aims to develop student leaders and strengthen the nonprofit sector in Indonesia.
  • IIE will select and pair 10 Indonesian students pursuing U.S. degrees with 10 U.S. undergraduates and arrange internships for them to work together in an Indonesian nonprofit organization.
  • In addition to the practical internship experience, U.S. participants will be enrolled in an Indonesian language and culture course which will provide intensive language instruction (60 contact hours).
  • All program-related costs will be covered. Students will receive a stipend to cover basic living expenses.
