Certification Information
The following conditions must be satisfied in order to fulfill the requirements for New York State Certification and for total compliance with Transitional B Certification and Lehman College.
Transitional B Certification—Successful completion of the following:
- The candidate has earned a baccalaureate degree with an appropriate major from an accredited institution of higher education based on four years of college study.
- The applicant has matriculated into a teacher education program leading to initial or professional certification in the area of the Transitional B certificate.
- Copies of the LAST and CST (Content Area of the Transitional B Certificate) exams submitted for your file.
- File for your Transitional B Certificate using the NYSED TEACH System at www.highered.nysed.gov/tcert (The Certification Office will provide you with a Student Information Instruction Sheet). Once you create a TEACH account, remember your user and password because you will need it to check your TEACH account and to apply for the initial and professional certification.
- Do not pay for your Transitional B Certificate Application, just print the payment coupon and submit it to the certification office. (Carman Hall, Room B-33)
- Provide the Certification Office with a copy of the child abuse and school violence workshops.
- Successfully complete the summer courses assigned by your program adviser
- Once you are fingerprinted and receive clearance, fill out an OSPRA 104 form and follow the directions. The OSPRA 104 form authorizes NYC to release your fingerprint results to NYSED.
Failure to follow these steps will result in NYSED not issuing your Transitional B Certificate. Once you have completed the above requirements, the Certification Officer will enter a recommendation for your Transitional B Certificate.
Note: The Transitional B Certificate is valid for three years. You will not receive a physical Transitional B Certificate, it’s an electronic certification that will be posted on your TEACH account.
