Welcome
From the Program Coordinator, Limor Pinhasi-Vittorio
We invite prospective students to join us in our commitment to the creation of learning environments that support and encourage social justice for all students and their diverse communities. Program candidates will develop the capacity to serve all learning styles, to engage with current research, methodology and theoretical advancements.
Our graduate literacy program prepares students for professional responsibilities as intellectuals and practitioners in a pluralistic, multicultural educational system. The program prepares students as literacy specialists who may become literacy coaches, reading teachers, community educators, curriculum specialists, textbook authors, and school administrators. Some graduates may also enter doctoral programs.
The 36-credit program in literacy studies leads to a master of science in education. Registered in New York State and fully accredited by NCATE, the program leads to a professional certificate in literacy in early childhood education (birth through grade 2), childhood education (grade one through grade six), or middle childhood and adolescent education (grade five through grade twelve).
