Smartboard
Overview
In a growing number of K – 12 schools, interactive white boards (touch screens connected to computers) are replacing blackboards and chalk. To prepare our aspiring teachers for teaching in 21st century classrooms, the School of Education in partnership with Tequipment, Inc. launched several intensive SmartBoard training cycles with our faculty and students. More than 25 members of our faculty and staff have participated in ten hours of training since Fall 2009.
During the January, 2010 Winter session, 90 students studying with the Department of Middle and High School took the same 5-session training, specifically tailored to their subject areas: Mathematics, Social Studies, Science and TESOL. During the Spring, Summer and Fall 2010 semesters nine (9) additional workshop cycles were offered. In some courses, faculty and students had the opportunity to study and learn together and evaluate best practices for teaching with interactive white board technology in their regularly scheduled classes. Although no longer subject specific, but open to students in all our programs, this certification workshop series designed for our pre-service and in-service teachers, is highly regarded and classes fill quickly. All students participate in the training above and beyond required coursework. Approximately 200 School of Education students received SmartBoard Certification in 2010.
Upon completion of the training cycle, all faculty and students present a model “interactive” lesson to receive SmartBoard Certification from Tequipment, Inc.
The School of Education and Tequipment trainers will continue to offer ten-hour workshop cycles for students. See Students for details.

RE: SmartBoard Certification Cycles
Next cycles June/Summer session, 2013! You must commit to all 5 dates in a cycle. Registration links will be emailed by Ms. Elvani Pennil and your faculty by end of April. Watch for the email. Do not contact now!
A registration link will be emailed via your faculty supervisor or Professional Network Development Coordinator. If you can commit to all 5 training dates, register as soon as you recieve the link. Classes fill-up quickly.
The School of Education in partnership with Tequipment offers several special opportunities for you to receive SmartBoard Certification throughout the year. You need to COMMIT to FIVE 2-hour workshops (10 hours of training). During the last session you will demonstrate an interactive whiteboard/SmartBoard lesson to receive certification. The cost of this training subsidized by your student technology fees is $75.00 (+ $2.87 processing fee), which is a steal for this type of workshop – you would normally pay over $350.00 for similar training. When cycles are offered there is very limited space, so check your schedule and register early! You must be a currently enrolled School of Education student.
