Part-Time Coordinator for Children's Program

For 35 years, Lehman College has offered enrichment classes for children ages 6-16 on Saturdays in the fall and spring, and weekdays on the summer. Courses are offered in English Language Arts, math, computers, art, music, test prep and sports. This program is part of the Lehman College School of Continuing and Professional Studies, Office of Continuing Education

Responsibilities of position

Schedule classes; develop new courses; rehire current faculty, recruit and hire new faculty, and supervise faculty; assist with text selection; interact with parents. Fall and spring classes are 6-7 weeks; summer classes are 3 weeks. The fall 2017 classes have been scheduled with 95 percent staffed.

Qualifications

Minimum of a bachelor's degree in relevant field, master's degree is strongly preferred; minimum of three (3) years full-time teaching at elementary or middle school level; knowledge of the NYC school system and Common Core standards; creativity; computer literate; detail oriented and excellent written and oral communication skills.

Availability

Schedule is flexible, although several designated Saturday mornings and early afternoons are required.

Summer Camp

The popular Summer Camp at Lehman College with three sessions during July and August provides children ages 6-12 with the opportunity for enrichment, creativity, physical fitness and socialization, all held on the campus of Lehman College. The camp is licensed by the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. We are hiring dedicated, dependable staff who enjoy working with children for the positions described below.

Aquatics Director for Summer Camp, 2018

Duties

The aquatics director is present at the pool at all times, oversees all swimming activities in the camp and works with the camp staff to ensure the safety and security of the children. She/he recruits, schedules, supervises and evaluates the lifeguards, swimming instructors and other pool personnel as required. In addition, the aquatics director designs the buddy system and implements the pool safety plan, responds to emergencies and incidents, completes and maintains paper work and serves as s role model to campers, the swim staff and camp counselors. The position reports to the camp director.

Qualifications

Must be at least 21 years of age; bachelor’s degree; a minimum of 2 seasons in the position of aquatics director in a NYS children’s summer day camp; successful completions of a lifeguard supervision and management training course; current certifications: WSI, lifeguard, First Aid, CPR with AED for Professional Rescuer; excellent leadership skills; excellent writing and oral communication skills; maturity. Give authorization for a criminal and sexual offender registry background check. If never attended, must attend an aquatic orientation session held by the NYC Department of Health.

Availability

Must be available for the two camp sessions: July 9-July 27 and July 30-Aug. 17 for two days/week, 10-12 hours/week.

Summer Camp Program Assistant

The Summer Camp Program Assistant assists the director with the administration and management of a comprehensive day camp serving children ages 6-12. For 3 sessions, the Program Assistant is required to: plan, market, schedule and budget; recruit, hire, train and evaluate camp counselors; enforce policies, procedures and regulations; serve as liaison between parents, counselors and the director; provide the highest level of customer service to children, parents and staff; recognize and respond to emergencies and evaluate the success of the camp at the culmination of each session by utilizing an online survey tool.

Qualifications

Required: Bachelor’s degree; Current yearly ARC First Aid certification and Professional Rescuer CPR/AED certifications ; Food Preparation Course certificate; commitment to 20-40 hours/week for 6-7 weeks (July-August) and commitment to 5-10 hour/week for preparation during May and June. Preferred: Experience working with children; bilingual (English/Spanish).

Yoga Instructor for Summer Camp, 2018

Duties

Teach fun, age-appropriate yoga classes to help develop strength, flexibility, and coordination for campers ages 6-12; serve as role model; maintain attendance records.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree; minimum one year experience teaching yoga to children ages 6-12; background in education or experience teaching dance, music, or martial arts a plus. Mature individual with a positive, energetic and creative personality. Must enjoy working with children.

Availability

Must be available for 2 camp sessions: July 9-July 27 and July 30-Aug. 17, Monday-Friday mornings and afternoons.

Salary

$36.64/hour

Head Counselors

Head Counselors assist and help supervise other counselors and staff; chaperone campers; lead and supervise activities and games; meet and greet campers, parents/guardians and staff; be aware of campers’ allergies or dietary requirements; monitor activities and whereabouts of the campers and counselors at all times; administer first aid/CPR as needed; report incidents to director; interact in a professional manner with parents/guardians; serve as role model to campers and other counselors; be aware of campers allergies and dietary restrictions; attend free Food Protection Course and serve either breakfast and/or lunch daily and other duties as required by director.

Qualifications

Must be available to work 19 hours/week for 3 camp sessions (July-August); high school diploma/GED/TASC; punctual; dependable; excellent communication skills; patience; enthusiasm; current yearly ARC First Aid and Professional Rescuer CPR/AED certifications; Food Protection certificate; previous camp counselor experience or other experience working with children. College students preferred.

Camp Counselors

Camp Counselors are required to: lead a variety of camp activities such as crafts, songs and games; chaperone campers to and from activities and breakfast and lunch; identify, respond to and report to camper behavior issues to Head Counselor; ensure clean and organized sites; communicate with parents/guardians; assist with attendance taking; know and understand all emergency procedures; be aware of camper whereabouts at all times.

Qualifications

Must be at least 16 years of age; available to work 19 hours/week for the 3 camp sessions (July-August); punctuality and dependability are essential; enjoy working with children ages 6-12. Experienced counselors preferred.

Aquatics

Water Safety Instructors (WSIs)

Part-time, year-round evening, weekend and summer camp teacher shifts available for classes for adults and children in the Lehman College Olympic-size pool.

WSIs provide swimming skills and water safety instruction; enforce water safety rules and regulations; perform rescues and administer first aid as needed; take attendance and report student progress in our database in a timely manner; interact with parents/guardians; inspect pool area before class for maintenance, cleanliness or damages and report issue to pool management; maintain proper storage of pool equipment; and report incidents/accidents. Additional duty for summer camp: assess swimming ability of each camper prior to participation in aquatic activities.

Qualifications

Required: Current WSI certification; current yearly ARC First Aid and Professional Rescuer CPR/AED certifications. Preferred: High school diploma/GED/TASC; 2 or more years’ experience as swimming instructor

  • Must have prior post-secondary classroom teaching experience
  • 3+ years’ experience using the application in a business/corporate environment at an advanced level
  • Industry certification for course(s) you wish to teach
  • Ability of deliver education materials to diverse students
  • Excellent communication skills

Cisco Academy Instructors

Lehman College Continuing Education is seeking part-time Cisco Academy Instructors to deliver high-quality training. Our curriculum is approved by the Cisco Networking Academy. Applicants must possess a strong knowledge of the Cisco Certified Entry Networking Associate (CCENT) and Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) programs and course material with recent certifications. The courses will prepare participants to gain the skills needed to be successful and prepare students to pass the CCNET and CCNA exams. 

Duties

  • Provide quality and technically relevant instruction, assessment, and feedback in lecture and laboratory.
  • Ensure course and program learning outcomes are delivered as defined by the course syllabus and program expectation.
  • Track and report students’ attendance and grades.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in an information technology field. (Master’s degree in information technology preferred.)
  • CCNA or CCNP required.
  • Excellent communication and public speaking skills.
  • 4+ years’ work experience with IT networking required.
  • Cisco Certified Instructor preferred.
  • CCNA certified instructor in the Cisco Networking Academy in order to use the Cisco Networking Academy curriculum/materials.

Lehman Academy for Children and Teens

Part-time Teachers

The Lehman Academy for Children and Teens offers Saturday (spring and fall) and weekday (summer) classes in academic subjects, test prep, computers, creative arts, and recreation. Teachers are needed for the following subjects: ELA and math (grades 1-8); SAT, NYC specialized high schools test prep (verbal, writing and math); computer coding; science; acting; art, dance; basketball; and swimming (WSI).

Qualifications

For academic subjects: master’s degree and NY teacher certification preferred; teaching experience with children and/or teens required. For creative arts and recreation subjects: bachelor’s degree preferred, expertise in subject and teaching experience with children and/or teens required. For all subjects: develop and follow syllabus; maintain accurate attendance and student progress records. Punctuality is essential.

Pay rate: $36.64/hour

English as a Second Language (Evenings and Weekends)

The ESL Institute provides instruction to native and international English language learners at all levels of proficiency in reading, writing, grammar, and communication skills. Classes are held days, evenings, and weekends.
