The English as a Second Language Institute at Lehman College has been helping students discover their voices for over ten years. The Institute provides a complete range of programs for learning English, including full-time and part-time programs, as well as private instruction. English as a Second Language classes are offered to students at all levels—beginning, intermediate, and advanced. Lehman students are culturally diverse and travel to us from all over the world. Our experienced teachers take tremendous pride in student learning and strive to give the best educational experience.

In order to meet the needs of the student population, we offer both a full-time program and a part-time program. The programs are specially designed to provide affordable English language study. Students improve reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills for academic or professional purposes.
A personalized approach to learning.
The Institute believes in a personalized approach to learning, so our class sizes are small in order to maximize individual attention and student participation. Our instructors are devoted professionals, using conventional and modern methods of teaching to keep students actively involved in the learning process.
International students are always welcome.
The English as a Second Language Institute welcomes students from all over the world. Our classrooms have hosted students from Latin America, South America, East Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia, Russia, and Eastern Europe. From Turkey to Thailand, from the Dominican Republic to the Republic of China, from Korea to Kosovo, the ESL Institute receives students with the desire and motivation to learn.
The program is specially tailored to meet the needs of international students. Students enrolled in the full-time program meet the requirements of eligibility for international students with F-1 visas. It is important to know that students without F-1 visas are also invited to enroll.

Lehman College is a senior college of the City University of New York and serves more than ten thousand students with over ninety undergraduate and graduate degree programs. The School of Continuing and Professional Studies provides professional advancement, certification, and personal enrichment programs that help students meet their goals. The Adult Degree Program accommodates those seeking academic degrees. Our counselors and advisers work continually to guide you.

The college’s historic Bronx campus is a place of beauty; it sits over a thirty-seven acre tree-lined campus. English as a Second Language Institute students gain a wide array of college perks, including access to high-tech computer labs, modern athletic facilities, an Olympic-sized swimming pool and more. Also, a state-of-the art college library is available. Plus, the Institute houses two new Language Labs designed for computer-assisted learning.
