Microsoft Office Specialist Certification Program

This program qualifies students to take the Core and Expert level certification examinations, a globally recognized standard.

Microsoft Office Specialist (Core)

This program level prepares students for the Microsoft Office Specialist core certification which validates skills with the Microsoft Office 2013 suite. MOS exams are available for these offi ce products: Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Email niyati.mehta@lehman.cuny.edu for test schedule and pricing.

Graphics / Web Design & Programming

GRAPHIC DESIGN FOR PRINT will equip the student for work as a graphic artist, creating illustrations, pictures, buttons and other images for use in print. WEB DESIGN AND MULTIMEDIA prepares students for careers as web designers with a solid foundation in the basic graphic and multimedia techniques used to create web sites. WEB PROGRAMMING prepares students for careers as web programmers.

Note: Students do not need to use a Mac computer for practice. Adobe for PC commands will be taught as well as Mac equivalents.

A+ Computer Technician Program

The A+ Computer Technician Program covers the fundamentals of computer hardware and software and helps prepare students for entry-level jobs in information technology including help desk and technical support. It also helps prepare students for the CompTIA A+ certification examinations (see COMPTIA for more information on the exams) and for more advanced IT-industry certifications such as Cisco and Microsoft. 

The program above is qualified for Workforce1 ITG Vouchers. Individual Training Grant (ITG) vouchers are issued from Workforce1 Career Centers and provide funding for occupational skills training that leads to employment in New York City high-demand occupations. CISCO Networking Academy at CUNY on the Concourse

The Cisco Certified Network Associate is the first level of Cisco’s career certification. This newly revised CCNA Routing and Switching curriculum prepares students who are seeking entry-level Information and Communications Technology (ICT) jobs or plan to pursue more specialized ICT skills. The program helps students build workforce readiness skills for in-demand jobs. CCNA Routing and Switching provides comprehensive coverage of networking topics, from fundamentals to advanced applications and services, with opportunities for hands-on practical experience. The complete curriculum is approved by the Cisco Networking Academy. Students will be prepared to take the Cisco CCENT certification exam after completing CCNA 1 and 2 and the CCNA Routing and Switching certification after completing all four courses. Prerequisite: A+ Computer Technician.

CompTia Security+ Course

CompTIA Security+ is an entry-level security certification preparation course that validates knowledge of basic security concepts, communication security, infrastructure security, cryptography, and operational security using hands-on learning in PC labs and lectures. Students must pass (84% or more) a 100 question, 90 minutes exam to become Security+ certified.

Administrative/Executive Assistant

In today’s competitive job market, individuals need not only excellent computer skills, but, also, the ability to write and speak well and to present a professional, polished appearance. The Administrative Assistant Certificate offers participants the opportunity to acquire these skills. Prerequisite: high school diploma or GED/TASC.

COURSE SUBSTITUTION / WAIVER NOTICE

Prerequisites for all courses are noted in the course information. It is recommended that students take either the Basic and Advanced MAC or PC sequence to insure competency and fulfill prerequisites before taking other IT courses. The Basic MAC or PC course prerequisite can be waived but proof of competency must be presented in the form of transcript or letter from employer. Geographic Information Science (GISc) Certificate Program (17 credits)

GISc is a fast-growing computer technology field involving mapping and analysis of spatial data. Experience in GISc can lead to enhanced career opportunities in such diverse fields as public health, criminal justice, urban planning, economic development, environmental analysis, government, ecology, hazard and risk assessment, and education.
