Stuttering EEG Laboratory
Dr. Ryan Pollard’s laboratory utilizes instrumentation that allows for the recording and analysis of physiological processes associated with stuttering. The laboratory is equipped with a 16-channel electroencephalograph (EEG) system to record the electrical activity of the brain during various speech and nonspeech tasks. Electromyography (EMG) is also used to measure muscle activity associated with speech movements. The lab received funding from a Graduate Research Technology Initiative (GRTI-14) grant.
Ongoing research in the laboratory focuses on speech motor preparation and execution in adults who stutter. Recently initiated and future projects will incorporate children and adolescents who stutter in order to examine neural correlates of stuttered speech closer to onset of the disorder.
