Professional Opportunties
Teachers of Music
Music is an approved major for students wishing to become public/
private school music teachers. The MAT degree prepares students for New
York State teaching certification. The Music Department offers
specialization in instrumental, vocal, and general music pedagogy.

Music Performance
Students in both the MAT and BS degree programs have the opportunity to
participate in any of the department’s many performing ensembles. Additionally, students
can perform in solo and chamber ensembles with the approval of the Music
Department.
Future Study
Students in the BS program receive a well-rounded education in the
critical disciplines of music study, including theory, composition,
electronic music, instrumental and vocal performance, and music history,
giving them a foundation for careers as performers, teachers, or for
more in-depth study at the Masters or Doctoral level.
