Sala Competition

The Twelfth Annual Jerome G. Sala Concerto Competition will be held on Friday, March 15, 2013 from 4 to 7p.m. in the Music Department. Named after the late professor Jerome G. Sala, a 20-year member of the Music faculty who taught music history, instrumental methods, and was the founding director of the Lehman College Community Band, the competition is open to any high school senior who plays a woodwind, brass, or mallet percussion instrument and who resides in the New York tri-state area. Auditions for Musical Production

Professor Penny Prince holds auditions for new musical production, Rumpelstiltskin '13.

The Lehman Music Department's 2013 Original Musical production, Rumpelstiltskin, tells the story of bullying and friendship with music, choreography, and original dialogue, written by the cast collaboratively. Auditions will be held Wednesday and Thursday, January 30 and 31. Please click here for more information.

Our annual symposium affords music educators opportunities for peer networking, and to earn academic credit towards fulfilling professional development requirements and salary increments. Five different courses are offered this year, in concert band literature, percussion methods, music therapy, piano, and ear training.

Music Department hosted unique Music Improv Camp for Middle & High School Students

The only program of its kind in the United States!
This one-of-a-kind NYC summer camp experience offers singers, string, brass, woodwind, percussion, keyboard and guitar players the opportunity to learn and develop their skills for improvising in Blues, Jazz, Rock, Latin, World and Classical music styles. Campers interact with like-minded musicians in a creative environment designed to promote learning and artistic freedom.

Lehman's Third Annual Jazz Festival: The Johnny Pacheco Latin Music and Jazz Festival at Lehman College ran from Wednesday, November 16 to Friday, November 18. The evening concerts were video recorded by Bronxnet, and will be broadcast Winter 2011/12.

Second Annual Lehman College Jazz Festival

cchs The Second Annual Lehman College Jazz Festival took place in the Lovinger Theater from Wednesday, November 17 through Friday, November 19, 2010. Featured performers included the Celia Cruz High School Jazz Band under the direction of Lehman alumna Uma Karkala (pictured above), with guest vocalist Leslie Lewis.
