Community Band

The Lehman College Community Band is an eighty-piece symphonic wind ensemble, comprised of students, alumni, faculty, staff, and members of the surrounding communities, spanning a wide range of age levels, professions, and ethnic backgrounds. It is not unusual to have students, educators, doctors, and lawyers all sitting in the same section.

Directed by Professor Alan Hollander, the Band gives four concerts in the Lovinger Theatre during the academic year, presents a series of outdoor concerts in the summer, and performs for other special events such as the Lehman College graduation ceremony and the CUNY Macaulay Honors College commencement.

All concerts are free and open to the public. Programming runs the gamut of standard and contemporary wind classics to Big Band, Dixieland, popular music, and commissioned works. Soloists perform with the Band at nearly every concert, notably each May, when the winner of our annual concerto competition for high school seniors is featured.

Acceptance into the Lehman College Community Band is by audition. Interested parties should contact Professor Alan Hollander at 718-960-8457.
